Justice for Prof. Aimé Avolonto
Join the fight against systemic anti-Black racism at York University
Welcome!
Justice for Prof. Aimé Avolonto is a network of students, trade unionists, and community members who have come together in support of Prof. Aimé Avolonto and his fight against systemic anti-Black racism at York University.
Many of us study, teach, or work at York University, but many more of us are from campuses in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout Ontario. Following Prof. Avolonto's press conference on April 8, we have now become a pan-Canadian network with supporters right across the country, and not only in the post-secondary sector.
Our goal is to get justice for Prof. Avolonto and to expose and challenge systemic anti-Black racism at York University and wherever anyone encounters it.
The best way to familiarize yourself with our campaign is to read--and then sign and share--the petition, which lists our demands and includes a brief summary of Prof. Avolonto's case. Then check out Prof. Avolonto's "Letter from a Black colleague" and The Fifth Estate documentary, "Black on campus," for a more comprehensive overview.
We are grateful for the outpouring of support for Prof. Avolonto and aim to respond to each of your inquiries or messages very soon. In the meantime, we will post your expressions of support on the website as soon as possible. Thank you!
We look forward to working with all of you in the days and weeks ahead. Together, we can win justice for Prof. Avolonto!
See you soon!
